As the tour busses pull into the shell scattered, unpaved parking lot, scores of anxious people peer out of the windows with cautious curiosity. As the bus doors part, the guests step out into the warm Florida air, rich with the aromas of fresh-smoked meats and grilling fish from the “Skipper’s” kitchen. They proceed down the wood plank walkway past the whimsical and brightly painted fish of the “living reef” on the right, and the swamp scene on the left, complete with the faces of the owners of Skipper’s, Tom and Vince, on some of the wildlife pictured there. From here, they step out on the sand and plank decking of the “Skipper dome”!
The rhythms of Reggae and Calypso music gently float through the air as the guests gaze upon the huge, palm frond covered Tiki deck and ancient canopy of live oaks that form a natural cover for the oasis.
Greeted by smiling young ladies carrying trays overflowing with ice cold beers and “Swamp Juice”-Skipper’s own signature rum punch-the guests are invited to feast on a bountiful buffet of scrumptious seafood, tropical fruits and more! As the sun sets, they can relax while digesting the domestic and exotic fare, which could include shrimp, conch, stone crab, and even alligator! Later, perhaps Prince Rupert & his Caribbean fire-eating limbo dancers will perform. Or maybe all the guests will form a line and conga around Skipper’s world famous dance floor to the beat of steel drums for a true Floribbean experience they’ll never forget!
