Bertie
Higgins
Inquire
About Booking This Artist
Welcome
to Key Largo, Casablanca, and a different sound in island
music. Meet Bertie Higgins, a Florida-based international
recording artist living in his own tropical paradise and
creating his own unique sound, one he dubs "Trop Rock,"
most familiar to listening audiences via his 1981 pop smash
"Key Largo." When this tale of Bogie 'n' Bacal reached number
one in the nation, the world took notice and it went on
to become an international hit. Other hit singles followed:
"Just Another Day in Paradise," "Pirates and Poets" and
"Casablanca," the latter track becoming Song Of The Year
in all of the Pacific Rim. The album hit double platinum
and Bertie Higgins became an international recording star
literally overnight ... or so it seemed. In fact, the Tarpon
Springs native has spent almost his entire life in show
business, starting at the age of twelve as a ventriloquist,
winning top prizes in local talent contests and quickly
becoming a favorite at school assemblies and clubs around
Tampa Bay. Following college, Higgins became the drummer
for the Tommy Roe band ("Sheila," "Dizzy") and The Roemans.
During this period, the band toured the world, opening shows
for the likes of the Rolling Stones, The Beach Boys, Tom
Jones, Roy Orbison and The Dave Clark Five. At the height
of Beatlemania, Bertie was playing with and learning from
the best. For the past several years, Bertie, with his excellent
band, has toured extensively around the globe, receiving
rave reviews and accolades from the music industry and his
fans alike, making numerous TV talk show and music show
appearances around the world, all the while continuing to
write and sing about turquoise lagoons, golden sands and
islands in the sun in his own unique style. Bonus trivia:
Higgins' great-great grandfather was Johann Wolfgang von
Goethe, the German poet who wrote "Faust."

Cold
Joon
Inquire
About Booking This Artist
With
a willful mix of traditional and modern rhythms, self-described
Bay area "culture pop" ensemble Cold Joon welds African
tribal rhythms to funk, pop hooks and unselfconscious joy
in a thoroughly engaging way. This ensemble brings traditional
tribal rhythm and dance from West African locales such as
Guinea and Senegal to venues all over America - more than
2,000 performances over the course of 13 years, to be more-or-less
specific. Over the years, the project has evolved with new
blood in the dance troupe, different musicians' perspectives
informing the music and the sort of identity development
that earmarks worthwhile creative endeavors. For all its
dance-instigating beats, spectacle - the group never performs
without a small battalion of drummers and dancers - and
uplifting sense of fun, Cold Joon is far from just an interesting
trifle. Many of the band's tunes carry a serious, if humorously
presented, sense of political criticism.

Tribal
Style

About Booking This Artist
Helmed
by three Kingston-born brothers, Muthoni, Tokunbo, and Mugabe
Tenn, Tribal Style is an adventurous reggae quintet with
a pedigree many roots practitioners would envy - the Tenn
brothers' father Roddy Tenn played drums on some of Bob
Marley's early recordings and the elder Tenn often performs
with Tribal Style, bringing the original essence of Rastafarian
drums to the band's music. While grounded in and respectful
of roots reggae tradition, Tribal Style's sound eschews
the typical world beat/reggae trappings, choosing instead
a path less traveled. In the past 6 years Tribal Style has
built a resume including tours and performances with Steel
Pulse, Burning Spear, Third World, The Skatalites and Toots
and the Maytals. A high point for the band was their featured
slot at the 1999 Bob Marley Day Festival in Miami Fl, which
included headliners Ziggy Marley and the Melody Makers,
Lauryn Hill and Erykah Badu.
